When to see a doctor about iron deficiency
Many iron deficiency symptoms develop slowly, but some patterns need prompt attention. Knowing when to book a routine visit — and when to seek urgent care — helps you stay safe while pursuing answers.
Seek urgent or emergency care for
- Chest pain, fainting, or severe shortness of breath at rest
- Rapid heartbeat with dizziness or confusion
- Heavy bleeding that soaks through protection hourly or lasts more than seven days
- Black or bloody stools, or vomiting blood
Book a routine appointment if
- Fatigue, brain fog, or hair loss persist for weeks
- You have heavy periods or recent pregnancy
