← Low ferritin in women
Understanding your ferritin blood test
A ferritin test measures iron stored in your body, reported in ng/mL or µg/L depending on the lab. It is usually a simple blood draw — but the number needs context: symptoms, hemoglobin, inflammation, and menstrual history.
How to read your report
- Check the unit and reference range printed on your lab PDF
- Compare ferritin with hemoglobin on the same date when possible
- Note if you were ill recently — infection can raise ferritin
- Bring a symptom list and period history to your follow-up
