Taking iron with vitamin C
Vitamin C helps convert iron to a form that absorbs more easily in the gut — especially important for plant-based iron. Many clinicians suggest pairing oral iron with vitamin C-rich food or a supplement.
Examples: iron tablet with orange juice, bell peppers with lentil curry, or strawberries with fortified cereal. Avoid taking iron at the same time as tea, coffee, or calcium-rich meals if absorption is a concern.
